Hur continues In A Landscape Anew series during her summer residency at Artadia in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Dynamic shades of orange, yellow, blue, and black are piled and arranged on the outskirts in angles, layered to look as if fading into or out of existence. In the center of the floor are halves of a broken pot, implying the delineation of selfhood and time.
New forms, colors, and materials forge a formal language referencing the lineage of western art history. After spending a few months in Italy teaching, Hur references the architectural ruins and memories of geographic sites by erecting a surface for the floor installation. The artist covers a broken pot and a living corn plant in saturated fuschia shredded silk flowers. This experimental montage of material and forms acts as a familiar reminder and hint of livelihood.
